How To | Homemade Sweet Potato Chips (Fries)

I did a very similar post some time ago where I showed you how to make your average potato chip (or fries to anyone who isn't English xD) which I will leave a link for you here.

However, sweet potato chips seem to be pretty popular right now, with pretty much every eating establishment offering the healthy sweet potato chip alternative, so I thought, why not show you how to make your own :)

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

 * 1 large sweet potato
*Sea salt (optional)
*Pepper (optional)
*Olive oil
*Large kitchen knife
*Chopping board

Prepping time: 5-10 minutes
Cooking time: 30-35 minutes
Serves:  4 (depending on size, or number of potatoes you use)

Make sure you pre-heat you oven to around gas mark 7 (425F/220C).

PREPPING THE POTATO

Make sure you cut off the ends of the potato, and any bits that you don't want to consume like the roots or root ends for example.
You can wash the potato if you so wish, but make sure that the potato is 100% dry by the time you come to slice the potato or your chips will come out very soggy and that wouldn't be good! You can also peel the potato if you want but I didn't as it adds extra nutrition and makes them nice and chewy.

SLICING THE POTATO

It doesn't matter which way you slice the potato, I tried cutting length ways, but then got lazy and cut it width ways instead. Just as long as the slices end up looking like the ones in the photo below, then you'll be fine :)

GETTING THEM READY TO GO IN THE OVEN

Put some olive oil on the bottom of the tray, get some kitchen towel (tissue) and spread it around the pan, don't put too much on or your chips will be too greasy. Then place the slices on the tray, make sure there's at least a gap of 0.5cm between them all so they aren't touching. Then spread a tiny amount of olive oil on top and sprinkle some salt and pepper on them (if you took the option to do so). Once you've done that, place them in the middle of the oven and don't adjust the heat.

You may need more than 1 tray.

WHILST IN THE OVEN

After about 10-15 minutes, take the tray out, and with a knife, turn each one of them over so both sides would be slightly coated in olive oil. Then place them back into the oven for another 10 minutes. They should be done by then, if not, leave them in for a little longer but make sure they don't burn.

READY TO EAT

Once they're done, take them out and leave to cool for around 2-3 minutes. Then you can serve them up and enjoy :)

(P.S. not all of these are for me xD I put them all in the same bowl for the purpose of this post :D )

I hope you enjoyed this post. It wasn't very difficult at all. If you end up making them, let me know via one of my social networking sites below! I'd love to see some photos on Instagram, just tag me in them @heartbritishthings.

See you next time guys!
